I want to say a huge thanks once again to all who made Iowa City Twestival possible last night. It was a great time and we had some good numbers. Thanks again specifically to the crew at IMU who got us the space (@slenger @recreant and @IMUbuddy) and to all the sponsors that donated raffle prizes.

After counting cash donations and online contributions (at least those I could track through TipJoy, Amiando tickets and Charity:Water) we raised $238. That is enough to provide clean drinking water to about 24 people for 10 years (or 12 for 20 years). Thanks for your donations, but don’t stop! Charity:Water still needs help to build wells for those in need. You can donate at their site via PayPal.

Twestival is fast approaching. Next Thursday, February 12, people in cities all over the globe will be coming together to raise money for Charity:Water and to just spend some quality time with Twitter users and other supporters in the area.

WE NEED A VENUE! 

The Iowa City Twestival materialized in the past two days. We’ve got the Twitter community, now let’s come together for a great cause. First thing’s first: we need a place to meet. Ideally, we would need a room at a bar/restaurant where we could set up a table with info about Charity:Water including a video/slideshow. If anyone can help find a venue, please contact me at @oscarhamson or @pancheros.

What is Twestival?

Twestival is basically a tweetup for a good cause. Cities around the world will be holding their own local parties on the 12th, and the Iowa City version should be a great time to grab a drink, some food, meet new tweeps and chat, and of course, donate to a great organization that helps bring clean drinking water to the 1.1 billion people without it. How to Donate?

We will not be charging for the event, but PLEASE plan to donate to Charity:Water. Cash donations are fine, but during the event, you will also be able to donate through TipJoy. While this event is a great chance to hang out, meet new people and reconnect with friends, it’s also meant to raise money for a great cause. Everything helps!
